To The Women Out There

By Manjari Gupta

To all the women out there, don't waste your time
Starving to strike 36" 24" 36"
Killing your spirits so as to fix
Yourself into the moulds of perfection casted
By imperfect, flawful people contrasting
To their own definition of perfection.
Stop designing and painting your faces for audience
Bearing their idea of beauty with acquiescence,
Dressing up to please, not being at ease
And falling prey to the creations of their diseased
Minds playing tricks on you.
Stop hiding your fucking expensive bra straps,
Packing your sanitary napkins in black bags,
Fearing menstruation blood stains on jeans,
And succumbing to society who only intervenes
To shame signs of femininity.
Stop suppressing the fires of talent within you,
The storms of glory in future await you,
Stop dreading rejection at hands of others,
Write your story, create your own world,
For you embody the strength of water,
And you embody the destruction of fire,
For you can soothe with your twinkle
And still can burn with your shine.

  • Straight from my heart:
There are times when we feel so crippled and helpless, all thanks to our insecurities, that we cannot help but give in to them, and turn away from our true selves. You’ve written hope, Manjari. Thank you for that.
