To expose our hearts

By Samidha Kumar

Strip me off my impiety in the middle of the night
Bones melting and reassembling into a child's prayer
Call me a lunatic for blooming beneath the stars
In a world of teeth and talons, for arming myself
With love and curiosity, laughter and freedom
And more love. Tell me to find peace.
These violent delights they talk of
Shattering humanity on the altar
Devotees of perversion stringing their virtues
With the carcass of kindness they butchered
Do you really think the roots of our progress
Come from inflicting your notions of brutality
On this brave race of soulful creators?
Our warmth is our power and unity is our weapon
We're not fragile in the way leaves are in autumn
Falling quietly while watching the end of our time
We're fragile in the way fire is
Giving light to mankind when it's not taken for granted
Purging villainy when it is
With divinity and justice rushing through our veins
We are here to expose our hearts to this poisonous world
To sing, to dance, to befriend, to inspire
To protect our tenderness with the ferocity of a mother wolf
And when corrosion knocks at our door, to swallow it whole.

  • Such thoughtful lines penned down in a prose. Loved the lines “Our warmth is our power and unity is our weapon…..leaves in the autumn”.
In today’s world it seems these are distinct thoughts, rare to find.
Keep up the good work..way to go.
