Random Thoughts

By Haimanti Dutta Ray

When a passion turns into a profession,
When immersed in thought, I forget all possession,
When every brick matters in the building of a nation,
That’s the time when Time matters most in the human condition.

School, college – are those building blocks of the mind
They support us, beating weathers of all kind –
Sadly, realization dawns only when we’ve left those days behind
Be at one with the self – watch memories themselves align.

Catching the first train, drinking from the first cup,
Leave behind all else for a duck
Adding salt to the food, the first drop of tomato ketchup,
An egg omelette never tasted nicer, amid all the gup-shup.

Writing about these, among other things
Negotiating my way through the myriad cufflinks,
Feeling like a fool in a land of queens and kings
Gives me a pleasure that’s hard to imagine.

I always dreamt of becoming a poet one day,
But hurdles came, as only hurdles may –
Writing a poem – lines in verse – makes me gay
Happiness lies in sharing of emotions, that in my heart lay.
