By Manikandan Ravi
Lone, green and grand
magnificent did she stand
dancing with the wind,
whispering through my ear
her flamboyance,
spread far and near;
giving everything she had, for free
she was more than just a Tree,
she had me feel Him,
though a believer I may not be.
I felt so small, as I stood under her,
I saw someone pass by, then another
they kept passing by,
but the Tree just stood there,
caressing the sun shining in May air.
Aren’t we all passers-by?
The Earth, the forest and the sky
has seen a lot of us come by;
for a short while we shall be high,
then hustle down like a silly lil mayfly,
afloat an eternal Nature as ashes, we shall lie.
Yet we defy,
to own Her we try,
our wars, battles, our evils did multiply;
and far away a Mother kept an eye,
silencing the storm was her cry,
grieving an unreturned son, her heart went dry
he who to save his Motherland bid goodbye;
But Why?
Aren’t we all passers-by!
The grander universe,
the weeny us;
Aren’t we all so tiny?
Our countless beliefs and many,
brawling over who’s Bigger?
many a life lost in agony;
as our ego grows thicker,
blinding us
from seeing none is superior or inferior to any.
With so much to Love,
yet so little Time to show,
my brother, sister and mate,
why do we Hate?
