Desire

By Sanchita Sehgal

Beneath the stars, a dream unfurls..
A girl lost in the depths of her mind twirls,
Mind lost in aspiration,
Heart filled with determination.
Though the dream she longed for was seized,
Because the society was displeased.

Are they who decide how far her flight ought to be?
She dreamt to be free.
The iris of her mind was hidden under rainy clouds, nonetheless her heart was determined to be uncaged,
She was enraged.

She took out her sword,
In the quest of empowerment, her heart was shattered by the limitless criticism,
She halted for accompaniment,
Like a sunflower anticipating the sun's return at night.

She fought alone,
One by one a field of alliums grew,
As the fire spread through the forest,
The marigold harvest was conquered by the waves of Lotuses.

Difficult, yes, but not an unyielding range,
Society's script, a story we can change.
Be unstoppable as a mountain range,
Your dreams don't have to rearrange.
