A Seed's Journey to Light

By Aabha Ghuli

I lay dormant, in my cozy coat

It protects me from all kinds of danger.

My world is small and dark, I don't even meet a stranger.

Suddenly water is around my coat, It starts to float.

I hold my breath, what is happening?

I stop thinking as water streams inside.

Everything is wet, nowhere to hide.

Suddenly a ray of light pierces my dark world, am I imagining?

Crack! My coat breaks and light fills my eyes.

I gasp! I am flabbergasted at the sight I see.

This jolly, bright and colorful world was unknown to me!

I see the other plants towering above me, and I wish to grow as high.

I think I am free, I can move now.

I try and try but no, I can't move an inch!

I look at the soil, I gasp and flinch!

I am stuck to the soil. Now how Should I move? How?

I think and think and think some more.

It's the root that's holding you down- it’s your part.

Giggled the other plants and I felt silly at heart.

I look up. I see I have leaves, not one but four.

I forgot that I was hungry in my excitement.

Watching others, I stretched my leaves towards the sun.

Waiting in the sun, I had a lot of fun.

While doing so I fulfilled my requirement.
