My ancestral nostalgia

AKSHITA SHARMA

my ancestral nostalgia
patterns down my
dadi's suti cotton saree
on my light wheatish skin,—
the saree she wore
on tired feet
in the fifties
to watch fever birds
set up their musical kits
in the midst of
fronds and ferns
like spilled spirits;
she would ruminate,
which is more tender?—
the notes punctuating
the possibility of love that maddens us
or her wide smile that was
a beautiful wilderness in its own quintessence.
my ancestral nostalgia
patterns down my
dadi's suti cotton saree
on my light wheatish skin,
i tend to weigh it down
just a little bit,
because i understand so little of it—
so little of how she was
complete in her own embrace,
so little of how
she had eyes
that sparkled with a child like wonder
and how
she was a pride in her own stagger
and
where i write this
peerless memory on the coast of her
graceful reminiscence,
i mourn the loss of words;
this saree was an uncanny resemblance
to women
with poetry as their religion.

She has always loved to write and poetry has found a way to
sweep her off her feet. She has always tried to stay honest to
her art, and has tried to work on honing her skills.
She has three publications to her name- all of which are
poetry anthologies.
"Chestnut, Maple and poetry" , " The PURPLE book of
poems" and "Mulberry Metaphors"are poetry anthologies by her that hope to connect
with all of you.
Whilst trying to find a balance between the irresistible art of
poetry and life, she hopes to have done justice to her art at every stage of life.
